Uptown Waterloo Night Market
A playful event identity for a summer market in the heart of Uptown
Uptown Waterloo Night Market is a summer event series hosted in Uptown Waterloo, bringing local vendors, community programming, and evening energy into a familiar civic space. I developed a colourful identity and campaign system that could move easily from digital promotion to posters, street signage, and event-day merchandise.
Challenge
A community event needed to feel energetic, clear, and easy to recognize
Seasonal events have to earn attention quickly in busy public spaces. The identity needed enough personality to feel ownable for Uptown Waterloo, while staying practical for a full summer schedule of promotional, wayfinding, and event-day materials.
The goal was to create something playful and welcoming without making the campaign feel cluttered or difficult to reproduce across different formats.
Solution
A bright, flexible visual system built around movement, discovery, and repeat use
The final direction paired a bold Night Market wordmark with colourful star motifs and a friendly astronaut character. Those pieces gave the campaign a memorable event world that could flex from simple awareness graphics to richer social and environmental placements.
Impact
A distinctive event presence across print, street-level, merch, and digital touchpoints
The identity helped the Night Market feel more visible, welcoming, and memorable across Uptown Waterloo. The system gave organizers a practical toolkit for promoting the series while creating a recognizable visual experience for attendees.
